Hey friends, I’ve started a new Tumblr devoted to my musical pursuits. I would love for you to follow me there too. Curtisbrinkmusic will have photos, audio samples, videos, upcoming shows and information about what I’m doing as a musician in NYC. It’s still a little under construction visually but it’s coming along.
Sound check and pre-game shots at the Knicks game last week
It’s not every day you get to say that your performing at Madison Square Garden. But today is a day that I can say that. Tonight the group that I perform with, William B Johnson’s Drumadics, is playing at the Knicks game. We’ll be the “vibe” music during the timeouts and breaks in the game. So excited! Here’s the percs:
-I get to be court side at an NBA game!
-The rumor is that the green room is very nicely stocked.
-Get to watch my boy Carmello up close
-And of course, I get paid.
Not a bad gig!
I’ll post some photos soon.
I wouldn’t normally think 50 degrees and rainy was nice weather but compared to last year at this time, I think it’s amazing! I was walking to the subway from school and decided to keep walking for a while. Around 110th I noticed an interesting church down the street to my left. I had seen it before but was enjoying the weather so much I decided to take a little side trip and check it out.
So glad I did. The outside was amazing and the inside about took my breath away. I love the cavernous space of cathedrals and old large churches. It makes me feel so reverent and peaceful. I would have loved to play my trombone in there. It would have echoed forever, filling all the space.
I’m almost always very thankful when I decide to take side trips in New York.
The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine
I was just listening to some Mumford and Sons while doing some work and this line caught my ear. It’s not unusual, many of their lines stand out to me at different times but in light of a conversation Emily and i were having tonight, this one seems really relevant. It’s one of the wonderful things about music. The way a song or melody or lyric or harmonic sequence can reach out and grab your heart right where your at.
“Death is at your doorstep
And it will steal your innocence
But it will not steal your substance.
You are not alone in this.”
Listen to the recording if you have a chance, I just posted it.
